Who I am
I’m Lauren McAvoy, an illustrator and visual storyteller based in the UK. I recently graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University with a degree in Illustration with Animation.
My work is rooted in the natural world, personal experiences, and the small details that often go unnoticed. I aim to create illustrations that feel inviting and expressive, striking a balance between playful energy and intentional design.
Alongside my creative practice, I’m passionate about making art that feels approachable and deeply human—work that reflects stories, connections, and the beauty in everyday moments.
My Creative Process
My process usually begins with a spark — a place, a memory, or a simple moment that stays with me. I collect these fragments through loose sketches, written thoughts, and colour notes, letting ideas form naturally before shaping them into something more intentional.
Each illustration develops through steady refinement: building depth, adjusting palette, and adding small details that bring the piece to life.
I work across both traditional and digital mediums, often combining layered textures, organic forms, and subtle patterns to build pieces that feel tactile and full of life. Whether I’m illustrating a narrative, exploring folklore, or developing personal projects, I’m always drawn to imagery that carries emotion, curiosity, and a hint of magic.
