About the Artist

I’m Lauren McAvoy, an illustrator and visual storyteller based in the UK. I recently graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University with a degree in Illustration with Animation.

My work draws inspiration from the natural world, personal experiences, and the small details that often go unnoticed. I create illustrations that feel inviting and expressive, balancing playful energy with thoughtful design.

I’m passionate about making art that feels approachable and human—work that reflects stories, connections, and the quiet beauty found in everyday moments. My portfolio includes both original projects and commissioned illustrations, each piece crafted to capture mood, texture, and narrative.

My Creative Process

My process usually begins with a spark — a place, a memory, or a small moment that lingers. I gather these fragments through loose sketches, written notes, and colour studies, letting ideas form naturally before shaping them into a more intentional composition.

I work across both traditional and digital mediums, often combining layered textures, organic forms, and subtle patterns to create illustrations that feel tactile and full of life. Each piece develops through steady refinement: building depth, adjusting palette, and adding small details that bring the work to life.

Whether illustrating a narrative, exploring folklore, or developing personal projects, I’m drawn to imagery that carries emotion, curiosity, and a hint of magic. This approach ensures every illustration, commissioned or original, feels expressive, immersive, and inviting.
